PalmOS Client

I like this Earthcomber thing. I wouuld love to see it in action with GPS. Does anybody have recommendations about GPS devices they're using? What does it cost? Is it hard to get set up? Any info you have would be appreciated

GPS Information

To add GPS to Earthcomber, you need to buy any NMEA0183 v2.2 compatible GPS receiver. Expect to pay between $100 and $200.

We have a list of GPS devices we've tried on our Equipment page.

GPS info

I have a NMEA0183 GPS But it is not being seen by the program. Delorme handheld sees it and NMEA Monitor reads it, but not Earthcomber. Please help I like your program more then Delorme's

GPS - the "on" switch for it, the bluetooth/serial choice

Earthcomber lets you toggle GPS on and off - tap that little satellite-dish looking GPS icon in the upper right of the map screen. (Yep, that one, right next to the ? for help)

Also, Earthcomber defaults to serial - if you have a bluetooth GPS, make sure you go to the main Earthcomber screen and pick "Settings". Tap GPS, then change it to Bluetooth. Then just go to the map (the globe icon on the top bar) and you're back. Now when you tap on the GPS icon, it will immediately bring up your bluetooth connections. Look for "nearby devices" and you should see it.

GPS

I am not using bluetooth. And yes I have checked the gps settings and tapped the box next to the ? Turning the GPS on and off.I am using a serial connection. PS2 GPS conection to a connector to the treo 650. Again I like your program better then some of the others. Bloated maps, I do not need the names of funeral homes I am passing. Do you think they are giving me a hint? :-)

Accesing GPS

Uh, Rather late comment. How are you supposed to define the GPS connection if you install ON the GPS ? In my case I am using Earthcomber on a Garmin iQue 3200.

It does work with Connection set to Serial (default value). I guess I was expecting to see a LOCALHOST type connection option. I think the Cell Phones with internal GPS will have same problem.

GPS on Mobile phone?

I have a Motorola Razr with GPS capability. Is it possible to use this with Earthcomber on my Palm TX? That would be really neat if it would work.

Thanks.

Razr does not have GPS, it ha

Razr does not have GPS, it has assisted GPS which is quite different and the accuracy is much lower. Plus it requires the phone retrieve data from the cell towers in order for them to tell IT where it is.

In other words, the phone has no GPS chip. It is told where it is via tower triangulation. This is the case with MOST but not all phones. Some have real GPS in them.

NMEA0183 V3.01

hello, using a palm T|X and I have a Qstarz BT-Q810 GPS Receiver, and I cannot use it with EC (v2.7.6), it will update the location on the map, but to the wrong location.

Using GPS Tester from freewarepalm.com I get these readings:
Lat:N 38°29.2919'
Lon:W 90°31.47'

Inside EC the rough location, by looking at the map and setting a spot, is here:
38.4871,-90.5166

but the location where EC update from the GPS is here:
38.4882,-4.6844

how can it be ~86° off?? is there a way to fix this???

I'm not sure what you mean he

I'm not sure what you mean here.. Are you saying that when you upload your personal Spots to the EarthComber website, they're off, or that they're off in EarthComber?

I upload spots to the website very often from various sources as personal POI's and this part works fine for me. And I've just uploaded a Spots.pdb file and those look fine as well.

You might need to explain it better.

NMEA v3

The problem appears to be that the GPS device is providing NMEA sentences using version 3 of the protocol. Earthcomber currently only supports version 2. We're looking at what it would take to support both versions. However, if the device can be configured to create version 2 sentences, it should work fine.

Sincerely,
Randy Wilson

My GPS

I have a Holux M1000 and it works fine with EC and WAI for Googlemaps.

UGG is a well known name worldwide although it was their sheepsk

Your uggs take care of your feet, now its time you took care of them. Ugg boots are one of the most comfortable shoes, traditionally made from sheepskin. They are lined with wool inside and come in various colors on the outside. Just as your other expensive items, ugg boots also require care and maintenance. The task of cleaning your uggs maybe a little time consuming, but it is certainly not difficult. Here are a few inexpensive tips and ideas to clean and care for your much loved uggs. Ugg boots might be comfortable and look great, but they are not work boots, and must not be used for everyday wear, if you do they will tear and fade easily. Brush Uggs are prone to accumulating dirt and grit. Take a soft bristled wire or suede brush, to clean all the dust or dried up dirt on your boots. Be gentle and wipe to clean your boots. The next step would be to wash these stains on the outside with a soft sponge dipped in cold water. Never immerse your boots in water, you may damage the lining inside the boot permanently, and ruin the shape of the boots. Water proof Unfortunately uggs are not water proof, therefore they need to be sprayed with a water repellent. You can spray the boots with water repellent or stain repellent, after making sure the boots are dry and clean. The repellent spray you buy should specifically state that it can be used on sheepskin shoes. New boots need to be sprayed with repellent to protect them from a harsh climate. Any spray or cleaner used should be diluted. Keep your boots away from harsh chemicals. Drying Let your boots dry naturally, do not put them in the drier as this will definitely damage them. Use a rolled up magazine or newspapers to stuff the boots as they dry, this way they will retain their shape while drying. Let them dry completely in a cool and dry place. Deodorize Always wear socks along with your boots so that they do not smell. You can buy replacement insoles for uggs as well if the odor remains, these are washable. To get rid of the smell, sprinkle about two spoons of baking soda inside the boots, and shake them upside down to remove excess baking soda, after letting them sit for one entire day. Back to brand new After this intense cleaning session, your boots may look a little wrinkled and flat. All you need to do to make them looking brand new is gently brush. Use the same wire or suede brush, and brush through the entire boots in one direction. Shrink and fade It is normal for uggs to shrink after a washing session. You can easily stretch them out by wearing them. If you notice that your boots have lost a bit of color after washing, this is also common. It is just the excess color that is washed away, and does not mean that your boots will continue to fade and lose color. Storage Stuff newspapers or a magazine inside the boots, to retain the shape of the boots. Store the boots in a boot storage box, and make sure they are well away from sunlight. Additional Tips Do not use hot or warm water on your boots. They are meant only for indoor use, not for harsh weather. Do not place them in the washing machine or dryer. Dilute any products that are going to be used on your boots. Your boots will not survive with your washing machine, hand washing them is the best way to maintain them. Ugg boots might not match all your clothes, the best way to buy ugg boots is to look for those booths, that go well with the overall look and style of your dressing. Ugg boots come in various colors, get them in neutral shades, to match all your outfits. Ugg 5202 Sand Kids InfantS Erin Waterproof Boots
